Community Announcement: Giving Opportunity

Hi! My name is Julie Burns, and I live at the south end of River Loop East on River Point Ct. I recently started volunteering with the Bend Food Project (BFP), which helps address food insecurity in Central Oregon. By donating food every two months, we can make a real difference--and if you are interested, I'd love for you to join me in this effort!

The process is simple: every two months, participants fill a reusable grocery bag (provided by me) with nonperishable food items. As your neighborhood coordinator, I’ll pick up the filled bag and leave a new one for the next collection (two months later). I’ll also send reminder emails for pick-up dates.

The donated food goes to The Giving Plate store in Bend, which is stocked primarily by BFP donations.  The store provides free food, including some fresh items, to any Central Oregon resident in need, with no eligibility requirements. They even have a “kid’s corner” with healthy snacks. Approximately 40,000 pounds of food are distributed every six weeks, highlighting the ongoing need.

If you’re interested in becoming a food donor, please email or call me (contact info below). The first pick-up is April 19, followed by June, August, October, and December. Feel free to reach out with any questions, and if you find it’s not a good fit after a few months, just let me know.
